01 — STUDY INTRODUCTION

Local augmentation, operationally understood

Surveyed airport reference receivers observe the same GNSS satellites as the aircraft. Ground processing compares measured and expected ranges, validates the measurements and constructs local corrections and integrity information.

Corrections improve the solution. Integrity establishes whether that solution can be trusted for the intended operation. Precision landing demands both.

02 — STUDY INTRODUCTION

VDB is a data link, not a beam

The VHF Data Broadcast carries digital GBAS information to equipped aircraft. The airborne system applies that information to its own GNSS measurements and computes deviation from the selected digital final approach path.

Receiving VDB alone does not prove a valid GLS operation. The crew manages the remaining operational capability, not the detailed diagnosis of airport equipment.
