01 — STUDY INTRODUCTION

The flight path is the objective

Automation is useful only when the crew understands what the aircraft is doing, why it is doing it and what should happen next. A selection expresses pilot intention; the FMA shows what the aircraft accepted, and the aircraft response reveals whether the intended path is developing.

The complete edition turns this relationship into a repeatable habit: define the intended path, select the supporting target or mode, confirm the accepted state and monitor the real aircraft.

02 — STUDY INTRODUCTION

Correct automation can follow the wrong plan

A vertical mode can descend smoothly toward the wrong selected altitude. A navigation mode can precisely follow the wrong active leg. Professional monitoring therefore connects three questions: What is the target? Which mode is controlling it? What is the aircraft actually doing?

The study integrates this cross-check with energy, route geometry, approach capture, stabilization and go-around mode awareness.

03 — STUDY INTRODUCTION

Simplify before complexity outruns understanding

When automation surprises the crew, more inputs can make the system state harder to understand. The transferable recovery model is to recognize the mismatch, protect the flight path, confirm the actual state, simplify if necessary and rebuild only after understanding returns.

The protected edition concludes with line-oriented scenarios, thirty operational rules, a forty-question professional examination and an instructor-level competency rubric.
